Why (Or Why Not) You Might Need a Self-Storage Unit

If you’ve noticed that your home is full of junk, you may be tempted to throw all of it away and start over. Unfortunately, that’s not a very practical idea and even though you might not use them all every day, you still have items that are useful. But don’t worry, you can still get them out of your sight and feel less burdened. Many people rely on self-storage as a way to keep their home free from unsightly clutter.

Here are some of the benefits of self storage:

1. You Can Keep What Matters to You

We all have things that we have come to be attached to over the years. Unfortunately, our homes aren’t always big enough to hang on to all of these things. However, if you are willing to box them up and put them into a self-storage facility, they’ll still be accessible for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. When you’re not using these things, you can take them back to your storage facility and forget about them.  Out of sight, but not out of your life. This is one of the self-storage advantages that we tend to forget about.

2. Your Home Will be Free From Clutter

Think for a moment how nice it would be not to have to sort through a ton of random stuff to find something you’re looking for. For example, maybe you have a mattress in your basement for a queen sized bed. Your daughter is moving out in a few months and she’s going to need a place to sleep in her new place. In the meantime, it doesn’t make much sense to get rid of that bed. It also doesn’t make sense to keep it in the basement because it’s taking up much needed space. Put the bed along with the sheets and everything else that goes with it into storage. This way, when your daughter gets married, it’ll be available for her. In the meantime, it’s out of your way.

3. Get Rid of Holiday Decorations

We all have holiday decorations that we obviously only use for a few weeks each year. The rest of the year, they’re in the garage or in the basement taking up space. Rather than sacrificing this space that you could be using, pack things up and put them into a storage facility. When the holiday in question comes around again, you can get everything out and get festive!

4. Put Away Winter Tools

You probably aren’t going to have a lot of use for a snow shovel in the summer.  Even less likely you’re going to use that snow blower. If it’s taking up space in your garage, it may be time to take that unsightly machine along with any other winter items to your storage facility. While you’re at it, you might as well take the kids’ sleds along with your winter coats, scarves, and gloves.

5. Great While Moving Homes or During Vacations

Self storage units are very helpful to have while moving homes when you need to store your items for a temporary period of time or during extended vacations when you need a safe place for your belongings.

6. Hoarders Delight

We all have the tendency to amass items with time, but some people hold on to things more than others and are deeply reluctant to throw away their accumulated items, thinking that they will need them in the future. Self storage units are great solutions for the hard-core “collectors” out there who want to hang on to absolutely all their belongings, and yet still be able to clear up valuable space in their home at the same time.

7. Lifestyle and Hobbies

Many people use self storage to store items related to their hobbies. Music enthusiasts can store their instruments and other equipment, sports lovers can store items such as golf clubs, erstwhile football or hockey equipment, tennis rackets, paddles, painting supplies, and so much more.

With a little bit of effort on a regular basis, your home can be cleaned up and looking nice. Believe it or not, you don’t have to spend countless hours organizing your junk. That’s a great way to waste your time. Instead, pack up the stuff that you don’t use on a daily basis and put it away. You’d be surprised at how much room you’ll create in your home that way.

If your basement is full of junk, pack it up and put it into storage. Think how nice it would be to have a family room in your basement. You could even build a few extra bedrooms. Maybe you don’t realize how easy this would be because you have too much junk to deal with.

Nothing is more embarrassing than having visitors over to your house only to discover that they are paying more attention to your clutter than you. Get some moving boxes today and start packing things up. When you’re ready, you can take everything to the storage facility.
