Showing the Spirit of Thanksgiving

Thanks Giving

In the corporate world, rewards for a job well done are likely to come in the form of dollars-and-cents, or other monetary perks, like bonuses, commissions, and company shares. But more often than not, when we want to feel appreciated as employees, sometimes it’s really the little things that count… like a family-sized Thanksgiving dinner free of charge! (Or is that actually a big thing?)

Either way, here at Public Storage Canada, one of the ways in which we show our appreciation for everyone on our team every year is by giving away the choice of turkey, ham, or pie, the essential (not to mention delicious!) ingredients for the traditional festive meal. After all, it’s Thanksgiving, the holiday that’s all about gratitude, and about expressing that appreciation with others. Based on positive experience as an organization, we have shown our appreciation for our team in other proven ways, which we’d like to share with you:

  • Celebrate your co-workers’ birthdays—pass around a greeting card for team members to express their best wishes, and set up a cake, or some snacks or goodies to mark the occasion
  • Recognize team performance openly—if your team members are meeting their targets or goals, send out a memo acknowledging their efforts to others in your organization
  • Thank colleagues for making special contribution, no matter how small—sometimes just hearing someone else say “Thank you” can turn a stressful day into a good one
  • Encourage talent and creativity—give your team members a regular forum to confidently voice feedback, generate new ideas, and explore new ways to tackle challenges

By showing the spirit of Thanksgiving in things both big and small, being appreciated becomes something that we can all celebrate every day, all-year-round. And, in that same spirit, we’d like to give an extra-big thanks for the support we’ve had over the years, from all the communities where we do business, who’ve been helping us grow as Canada’s self-storage leader!

Thank you, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving! (Oh, and one last thing—would you mind passing on that recipe for Mom’s awesome stuffing?)
